Hello, my rig is pretty similar to yours(specs in sig) A GTX 970 is roughly equal to a 1060 and I can run almost all modern games at max settings at 2560x1080 and I certainly recommend going the ultrawide path, I've really enjoyed the upgrade.

Edit: More like a GTX 980. 1060 is better in some games, 980 is a bit better in some

IF money is no problem go nuts!

What Can I say about myself.......
I'm charming, witty, charismatic, stunningly good looking and am a habitual liar
I have an eating disorder that leaves me permanently hungry, however the more I eat the more my IQ goes down, It is a cruel and unusual curse. (I may also have bum worms)
I have many friends and they find me very funny, they are always laughing when I am around.
I only have 1 and a half testicles after an incident involving a squire, a jar of vaseline, a bowl of mixed nuts and a Soft Rock mix tape.

I have an acer x34 predator, currently powered by a 1070, and I can tell you its a really cinematic experience, definitely a replacement to multi-monitor setups. Only thing I'd say is not all games are optimised for the 21:9 aspect ratio and leave black bars down the side regardless of which resolution is selected, though GTA V and Borderlands definitely make use of that extra horizontal space.

I have a very similar monitor to the LG one and have had no issues whatsoever with it - it is a DREAM and really well done. I have a 1070, so I'm a tier above you in terms of gpu horsepower and have no issues with GTA maxed out (however you'll have horrible FPS in grass so I'd recommend turning the setting down a bit if you want to explore the areas near the vinewood sign).

I was going between a 4k 16:9 27'' and a 1080p 21:9 and picked the ultrawide. I'm happy.

I have said it before, 21:9 in 29 inches for 2016 is a no no. Maybe if you don't have the money or horsepower to run the 34um95 which is around 700$ right now, i whink that you would benefit by 2 1080p or one 1440p. Here are some options:

A couple of those https://www.amazon.com/VG248QE-1920x1080-144Hz-Gaming-Monitor/dp/B00B2HH7G0/ref=lp_8588814011_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483622279&sr=1-1&th=1 for 500$

Or one of those https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515H-25-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00SPWPF1O/ref=sr_1_13?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483622361&sr=1-13&refinements=p_n_feature_keywords_two_browse-bin%3A6570749011 for 330$.

Personally i would take the 34 inch ultrawide but they cost like 900$ or more depending on some things. Your pc is powerful enough to run it  at 40-65 fps so dont worry.
