ITX Rig 2017

Noyu

Good Day.

So I sold off most of my current rig components and now I'm ready to move to Skylake Kaby Lake

Current plan:

CPU: Intel i5-6500 (stock cooler)

CPU: Intel i5-7500 (stock cooler) yeay kaby

MoBo: Gigabyte H170N-WIFI (used)

GPU: Sapphire R9 380 Nitro OC 4GB (from previous rig)

PSU: SeaSonic M12II 520W EVO 80+ Bronze (from previous rig)

Case: Silverstone Sugo SG13WB

SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB (from previous rig)

Now, the only "problem" I can see with this build is the compatibility issue with a full ATX modular (160mm) PSU and the SG13.

However, I've done my research, and some people have said that it will be a very tight fit.

Sooo, my plan is to buy the new components, try to install. If it fails, I'm going to buy the Sharkoon SilentStorm SFX Bronze 450W and sell off my SeaSonic.

But, that presents other issues like PSU reliability and if 450W is enough for my build.

As far as my research goes, the Sharkoon has almost identical internals to a more expensive Silverstone SFX PSU.

I'm currently checking if 450W is enough using the online calculators.

Also, some people have suggested that I go with an i3-6100 (since I mostly just game) and selloff my R9 380 to get the newer 1060.

However, from my perspective, it would be better to go i5-6500 now, and then upgrade GPU later on when the newer cards come out.

I just play 1080p LoL and OW anyways so yea

Update: This is already built, but right now I'm considering to downsize my PSU. But I can only afford to sell my SeaSonic and buy the Sharkoon.

Any comments/recommendations/suggestions?

Karamo

Well, Linus managed to fit an AX860i in an SG13 in the build video where they crammed an E5-2699v3 into it as well as a Titan X :D so I think you're fine in terms of PSU length. However, using said PSU they couldn't mount the SSDs properly using the bracket so they taped it to the top of the PSU instead where the ventilation was (the PSU fan was facing in).

I've owned an SG13 personally, and here's what I've learned.

If you aren't mounting any 3.5 inch drives, you can have a PSU that's pretty much the length of the case, as you can remove the hard drive plate that blocks the space normally.

The SG13 has another 2.5 inch mount on the bottom of the case.

I used a Corsair CX500M (150mm I believe) with the drive plate installed in my build, and ran into no issues.

yeap. this is exactly the reason why I think I can do it.

but yea, I might have to be creative re: drive mounts. I have 1x SSD and 1x 2.5" HDD

I've been looking for someone who will confirm this. Thanks m8.

So it looks like I'll be mounting my 2.5" HDD on the bottom mount, and just get creative with the SSD.

THE CABLE MANAGEMENT IS HORRRIBBBLEEE AHAHAHAHAHA

the modular cables are too long. from the inside my rig looks like a box full of black spaghettis.

pretty sure about 30-40% of the volume of my case are just cables.

should I downgrade/downsize to an SFX PSU? pretty sure I can buy a new one if I sell off my SeaSonic.

The temps are okay but they aren't great.

yeah, that's the downfall of the sg13. Not much room for cable management.

If you can afford the difference, and SFX PSU will give you much more room for cables, as well as silverstone offering a short cable set for their SFX PSUs

I can afford the Sharkoon SFX if I sell the SeaSonic.

But the SilverStone (and the cable set) is very expensive here. huhu
