Hello everyone,

I have run into a problem and could do with some help from more experienced computer builders.

My configuration -

Case - NZXT Swift 810

motherboard - ASUS Z9PE-D8 W

Power - Antec HCP Platinum 1000w

CPU - 1x intel Xeon 2687w

CPU Cooler - Corsair H90

RAM - 32 GB Corsair Vengance 1600Mhz, DDR3 4x8GB,

GPU - EVGA GTX 680.

I first started off with all the components in case. Once all installed, I plugged in the power supply cord and switched the switch on. Once the power source is on, the motherboard built in power switch lights up telling that it is receiving power. Once I press the power button the "reset" button next to it lights up instantly. Fallowing that for one or 1.4 seconds the power supply's fan, H90's fan, case fans rotate, then just drop and nothing happens.

I though I haven't installed the stand-offs correctly so I removed the motherboard from the case.

Now the motherboard sits on it's cardboard case. The only things I have plugged in the motherboard at the moment are the CPU with cooler on top and power - the 24 pin motherboard, 8pin CPU. I tried to switch it on, and the results were exactly the same as in the case. Looks like the GPU and RAM is not the issue.

Fan from the H90 is connected to the CPU fan header and the Pump is connected to one of the available fan connectors as suggested by corsair.

At this point I am stuck, and don't know which of these three components - CPU, Motherboard or power supply is the cause for the failure in post. I'd like to believe that the Power source is fine, as the motherboard is receiving power. I also think it is not the problem with the motherboard, since it is switching on and off as requested. I have a feeling that it is the CPU that is failing.

Could you please post your comments, suggestions and share your experiences. I would appreciate your help.

Kind regards,

Have you tried switching the CPU to the other socket?

I think I remember reading somewhere that if using a dual socket platform with only one CPU it has to be in a specific socket.

Okey make sure the CPU is in socket 1 and the you have populated Dimms A1, B1, C1 and D1. You need to have 24+8+8-pin all connect even with one cpu so the 24pin and both 8 pin cpu power ports as well

Hello guys,

thank you for your feedback,

yes the problem was that I only plugged in the 24 pin connector for the motherboard. Once I inserted the 8pin additional power supply, the motherboard posted with no problems. Also, for some strange reason I had to put the 8pin CPU power for the other CPU, even if the socket is left empty otherwise it would not post.

So I have finished all the wires, etc, now just need to install the drivers and on my way!

Thank you guys for your help, really appreciate it! Sooo happy :D
