So my pc was getting random shutdowns in games. So I thought I would try another game that always ran stable and that time my pc shut off and would not power back on.  When trying to start the pc, no fans would spin up or any leds except MOBOS power led. So I was unable to even get to the BIOS. After a few weeks of messing with it I finally figured something out if I disconnect the power for GPU, the pc boots up like normal. Even if the GPU is connected to the PCIE3.0 lane it will boot as long as there is no power cable going to it.

Specs

i7 4790k

MSI z97 A Gaming 7

16gig GSkill ram 8x8

EVGA 750w G2 Supernova

Gigabyte 980ti G1 windforce

Any Ideas?

So the PC doesn't work like it should if you have the gpu plugged in (I assume you have checked that it has everything it needs, both psu cables 6pin?). But it does work fine when you remove the gpu completely?

Maybe check the cables again and get new drivers, delete old ones. Then try something with light load. During this you will check how much power the gpu is using etc. This might not work for you but it is what I would have done if it would ever happen to me.

Let me know if and how you manage to fix it, either by yourself or with the help of someone else.

The PC Is literally completely dead if the gpu is plugged in with the VGA cables that then go to the PSU. As soon as the VGA cable is disconnected, with the GPU still in the PCIE slot. The PC will turn on. But the PC does not recognize any External GPU and defaults to IGP, since there is no power going to the GPU.

So I am unsure how to proceed as I cant install the latest Nvdia drivers, cause the pc wont recognize any Discrete GPU.
