Hey there,

On behalf of the company I work at I'm doing some research into building a high-end workstation / render machine for big 3D and video projects. I do want to use Xeon 2011 hexa or octo core, for which i want to use the Asus Z9PE-D8 WS. This mobo got a positive review from TTL, so i'm confident it will suit my needs. I'll put in 64gigs of Corsair's Dominator Platinum RAM, an SSD etc.

My biggest concern is the GPU. Some say that GPU rendering is awesome, some say it isn't because of the lesser RAM. Some say you need tesla or quadro, some say regular GTX cards are better. Should i get a Titan, or maybe two in SLI? Please advice.

Thanks.

Oh sorry, forgot to mention. I have not been given a budget yet, but money is not really an issue here. I was asked to find out what the best/fastest solution is. I've seen that the better quadro and tesla cards are very expensive, but the specs are less then say a GTX680.

With the mentioned mobo and two Xeon E5-2687Ws i'm at about €3500 ex VAT. I do not want to spend more than €6000. I don't really know wether GPU rendering is worth the money over CPU rendering? So if two regular GTX680s will work just fine, that would be great. It would leave some room to do some watercooling.
