Why bother when there are loads of inexpensive mechanical keyboards. A few mouse clicks and opening a box is a hell of a lot easier then trying to make your own. I mean if its something that you want to do for the sake of doing it its possible to make your own keyboard but ive never heard of someone converting a dome board to a mech board.

It's probably easier to build one from scratch then to do waht you are planning.

depends on what your going for. if you just want a mechanical keyboard buy one. if you want to make something custom & unique then it would be a lot easier to build on a prototyping PCB

With the way most membrane keyboards are made, it would prety much be impossible to convert to mechanical switches. You woudl bassically need to make the wole keyboard from the ground up. Membrane keyboards do not have indevidual switches that can be replaced. This is what your typical membrane keyboard looks like underneath all those keys. The design makes it pretty much impossible to modify. I also want to add, even if you could you could just buy a mechanical keyboard for the price you would end up paying for just the switches.
