Greetings everyone,

Few months back I've decided that I want to build a desktop which would mainly be used for gaming and would last for at least 3 years, before considering SLI, overclocking to keep up with the requirements. I haven't build a system in more than 10 years, but I do work in the IT industry and I don't think I'll encounter any problems assembling a system. I kind of already know what I want to buy but the more time I spend on the internet reading reviews, suggestions I tend to change my choices or question my picks. I initially wanted shinny lights and pretty stuff, which would be nice to have, but now I don't consider them a must.

Bellow are the answers to questions from the Build Plan Thread Recommendations topic:

1. Budget & Location - around £ 2.7k from London, UK.
2. Aim - mainly gaming/everyday use with some basic photo/video editing. As for gaming I play shooters/RPG mainly and I'm aiming to play them at max graphics.
3. Monitors - just one (PG279Q) and maybe a 40 inch TV in the future to watch movies on it.
4. Peripherals - check list bellow.
5. Why upgrading ? - its a new build, I don't own anything else apart from my Yoga 12 work laptop and my personal 5 y.o. Lenovo laptop.

Without further ado this are the components that I plan to buy before Christmas:

PCPartPicker part list
CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor - looking for something long term
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U9S 46.4 CFM CPU Cooler - here I'm a bit in doubt as I don't know if I should go for a water cooler or air. I don't know how the water cooler last in time and the Noctua have 6 years warranty. One concern I have about this Noctua coolers is their weight and size, but I don't intend on moving my desktop to often so that should be fine.
Motherboard: Asus MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard - Thinking of getting this as it has built in Wi-Fi which would save up buying a PCI-e card, because I can't use Ethernet at the moment. Initially was aiming for Hero but hence a good Wi-Fi card is nearly 30 - 40 pounds I upgraded to the Alpha version.
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" Solid State Drive - at the moment it will be used for apps and OS, planning on getting a 128 GB PCI-e SSD for OS and leave this for apps.
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive - basic storage
Video Card: Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 8GB AMP! Extreme Video Card - to fulfil my requirements I went for this beast.
Case: NZXT S340 (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case - still not entirely sure about this case, I would like my cables to be hidden as much as possible, initially went for the Phanteks Evolv.
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA P2 850W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply - 850W may be overkill for this setup, but I plan on SLI in the future so extra power is required.
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit - will chose something like this.
Monitor: Asus PG279Q ROG Swift 27.0" 2560x1440 165Hz Monitor - a bit concerned about this model because of all the negative comments this product has, but I'm ready to gamble.
Keyboard: Corsair K70 RGB RAPIDFIRE Wired Gaming Keyboard
Mouse: Mionix NAOS 5000 Wired Laser Mouse  - already own it (will consider replacing it later on).
Mouse mat: Corsair MM200 - to spread across the desk to hold both the keyboard and mouse.
Headphones: Kingston HyperX Cloud  Headset - same again, very please with them will definitely stay.
Speakers: Wharfedale 9.0
Amp: SMSL SA-50 Hi-Fi Stereo Amplifier

That is all folks, please feel free to criticise and share your opinion or suggestion, everything is more than welcome.

Thank you for your time going through my long post.
Sico

Only thing I can say that isn't just jealousy of this build would be the CPU cooler. the Noctua ND-H15 is similar (double check that it will fit in your case), but beats out most AIO water coolers AND comes with 2 Noctua 140mm fans, which are the real value. Mine, I use to get a full 0.8 GHz and more voltage out of my 4790K, which never gets warmer than my pizza. If you need convincing, and haven't seen this, Linus put it head-to-head against some top end AIO watercoolers.

I would say that there is a couple of issues with that list, for instance if your getting a GTX 1080, you should get a 4K monitor with it as well, I recon you should get this, or something similar, I imagine there will be a few issues with it, please bring them up if you want, but here it is https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/mGMCZ8

It's 1440p 165hz so no problem there.

overpriced motherboard, and overkill PSU.

Mouse is not showing the price.

You can buy windows from Kinguin a lot cheaper.

Thank you for your reply.

Overpriced motherboard - hmm maybe, but like I mentioned i need WiFi as I can't use cable connection, initially wanted to go for the Hero version and attach a PCI-e Wi-Fi card which will eventually equal same price as this one, plus do consider that I chose quite high end components and I don't want to sit them on a inferior board. Of course being expensive doesn't mean its quality, but I'm looking at getting something that will last me at least 3 to 5 years and won't have any problems adding a SLI, extra Ram, m2 or PCI-e SSDs, overclocking and so on.

Overkill PSU - like I mentioned I will be adding a second card in SLI later on in the future which will bring the power to nearly 750W conform pcpartpicker, 100W remaining if I decide to of adding any extra storage or other devices plus some overclocking.

The mouse is irrelevant as I already own it, being brought few years back, I just add it to the list to mention that I have a mouse.

As of OS if you check the hyperlink under this, it will give you a link to amazon which has relatively similar prices, but cheers for letting me know of that site.

This cooler is a beast, I will definitely check compatibility with my preferences. Thank you for the recommendation.

Thank you for your suggestions, will definitely look into your recommendations. That motherboard looks good but that CPU is way to powerful for what I'll be needing, even if I'm looking for future proofing.

Actually it won't be the same price, with same features.
