Hello all,

my main requirements for this build are stability, quiet operation, and high performance. I believe I went with good components that will work well together but I thought a second opinion would be useful.

PC uses are gaming (on a 1440p 144hz G-Sync monitor, preferably at Max/Ultra settings ) + a good amount of video and music encoding/ playback.

Some notes:

  • Budget max is around $2300-$2400 USD
  • Parts marked as purchased are parts I'm carrying over from a previous build.
  • I had one ssd, one hdd, and a GPU fail which pushed me to decide to just do a full upgrade.
  • I plan on replacing the 1080 with a 1080ti (or equivalent from Nvidia/AMD) whenever that is available. The only reason I'm picking one up now is that my 980ti died.
  • Some of the parts may be a little overkill for the build (psu, ssd) but I was aiming for both color scheme and the hope of better reliability with higher end components. (I've had a lot of hardware issues with pc's in the past)
  • I'm thinking of going with the EK-XLC Predator 360 as I was going to get a gpu block once I get the 1080ti and according to EK it's suggested at 120 per component + another 120 for an oc.
  • Regarding the case I was thinking the non glass Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX may be better as the side panels appeared to be much easier to work with.

If there are any glaring issues with parts compatibility or suggestions on alternative parts. I'd greatly appreciate suggestions.

Hey it looks great. Wanna go even more red? Pick a Corsair AX. Very good and has red sticker on the side too!

Have you thought on a CPU cooler? Noctua DH 15 is nice and quite too

Non glass? How you gonna show off your red?

6800k is literally the same as 6850k with only less PCI E lanes

Do you already have the monitor? Freesync monitors are way better than Gsync monitors given the same price because of the huge cost of Gsync. Assuming AMD releases a GPU with the power of a 1080 Ti this January, you can use that with the monitor and freesync.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Computer having a hard time powering on? Troubleshoot it with this guide. (Currently looking for suggestions to update it into the context of <current year> and make it its own thread)

Thanks for the reply. I was actually going for a mostly black and white but forgot to mention that. The MSI 1080 is a placeholder for the 1080ti (or w/e it's called) which I'll be installing a waterblock on to match that.

Regarding CPU cooler the Predator XLC under custom parts I believe should work and it's expandable for adding in that gpu block with the quick connects.

Fair enough on the case, I might just go for the glass for the looks and deal with the slight inconvenience.

I was wanting the extra PCI E lanes for future expansion + I can get Intel processors at pretty good prices so the difference between the two isn't huge.

Good reasoning

Their RX 480 is catching up to a 1060. But would be cool to see something powerful from AMD and then gradually dropping down generation (like 480/470/460) to the level of GTX 1070. Time will tell

Yeah I already have the monitor here https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/UM.HX1AA.001 otherwise I'd be more open to freesync but I could just sell it if the AMD cards prove to be better.

We'll have to see about that, at the very least AMD will do competition for the 1070 and 1080, but not sure about the 1080 Ti just yet.
