I haven't built a system in years so I've been doing a lot of catch-up on what's currently out there.  I've got a list of what I think I want, however I'm not certain on how many case fans I need (or will even fit in the case I've chosen)?  I'd very much appreciate any input on this build list I've put together, as well as any input on whether you would change out anything.

I use my PC as both a workstation and some gaming, with some video editing as well.

its fine, although i'd get a seasonic prime 750w instead of the T2 850w.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

Is the seasonic a nicer PSU?

750w prime is cheaper, and you can run them past 750w without any issues IIRC.

I'd get 2 regular 1TB SSDs instead of the PCIe, the difference likely won't be very noticeable

Sorry, I remember it now, it's not sketch. But it's still a waste, since most people won't really see any advantage over a normal SSD and you're paying quite a hefty premium

Ah gotcha.  Well I already own a couple of Samsung Pro SSD 1TB drives that I was going to add in addition to this one.  The only reason why I picked this Plextor is because the reviews made it sound like the system would boot so much faster and games would run so much quicker.  You think a regular SSD would be comparable?

Why the 6850K over the 6800K ?

My thought was that since a lot of games don't benefit from the multiple cores, the higher clock speed of the 6850K might be better for games.  As far as the other stuff I do like video editing and such, it's about a wash.  So since the 6850K might have a slight edge in gaming, I chose that one.  Am I off base?

Yes

That's mostly BS. For SSDs the motherboard's BIOS screen itself usually ends up being the bottleneck. But even then, you'd be going from like 3 seconds for Windows to actually load up to 2 seconds.

hell no. Quicker drives can help with load times but never framerates, and even then a general SSD's got you covered in that department

Cool, then since I already own a couple of Samsung PRO SSD 1TB drives, I can save some cash.  Thanks! :)

The i7 6800K is only 200MHz slower than the i7 6850K. You won't notice any real world difference. Plus you can always overclock the cpu.

Your cooler is nice as hell so you can OC a 6800K wayyyy past a 6850's base clock. Removed the PCIe SSD, added blue LED RAM to match the mobo (it's cheaper too) and dropped to a 6800K. Use the $600 for a 4K monitor or a 1440p 144Hz and a nice keyboard & mouse

Stuff would load marginally faster. The largest differences I have seen were around 15 seconds and that was with a highly questionable SSD.

It is not worth 100$ more for just a 200MHz improvement that could be made up for with overclocking as you definitely have a cooler to support extra heat.

This is all extremely helpful, thanks everyone.  The last time I built a PC, SSDs weren't really popular yet.  I had to read up on what the hell m.2 and u.2 were, LOL!

So it looks like the Phanteks case comes with 3 fans already.  Do you think I'll need any additional case fans?  Also, I didn't even think about the monitor situation.  What monitor setup are most people running these days?  A single large monitor?  Dual?  Triple?

3 is more than fine, check out Luke's video here

Single is still the most common, triple is for the gamers who have cash to blow and want that extra immersion and dual is for productivity (read: people who wanted to use their old monitors for something). Dual is still pretty helpful though with writing essays and doing research and shit. Editing too.

Hahaha!  The beginning of that video is exactly what I was asking in my head.  Awesome.

How about this monitor?:

Do you like a different one better?

Corsair H110i for $139.99 from Corsair (cheaper from other outlets like newegg)

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-series-h110i-280mm-extreme-performance-liquid-cpu-cooler

The biggest difference is that Corsair's AIOs come with 5 year warranties that cover all of your hardware (in case it breaks) unlike Thermaltake.
