How does BF1's premium pass work?

I don't have a definite answer now, is all of the dlc free, and you just have to wait for it longer without the pass, or do you need the pass to play some of the new maps coming out.  I am new the  Battlfield games, and will only pick this up, if you need it to play the maps and it is on sale.

its pretty much the same as a season pass for other games. though in bf4 it also gave you priority queuing for full servers, so you'd be place in front of non premium players.  you also got the dlc's a few days earlier.

That doesn't answer my question, I said I am new to the games and don't know how it works.  Is it free for everyone one after a few weeks, or can they just play it a few weeks before people can BUY the dlc

Premium gives you access to all the DLC, In BF4 you got it a little bit earlier then people without premium (so say the dlc was set to release dec 1, premium people would get it a short while before dec 1).  There was no free content for BF in till the game had run its course, not sure when the first free DLC map was released for everyone, was probably 2 year later.

With premium you get all the DLC for free and a few days before everyone else gets the option to buy it.
