In need of an upgrade. Would like some input.

Hello all, I'm a film student and part of going into the film industry is having a PC/mac powerful enough to handle video editing. My current PC build works minimally, but I am increasingly in need of some upgrades to keep up. I am curious as to what you guys think.

 

Here's my current build:

-i7 4770K w/ h100i cooler

-16gb ddr3 1866

-gtx 780

-asus maximus VI hero

-750w PSU

-120gb SSD boot drive

-3tb hdd

 

Here's what I'm wanting to upgrade to:

-i7 6700k w/ h110i cooler

-32gb DDR4

-gtx 1080

-maximus VIII hero

-256gb SSD boot drive

You won't get too much of a performance increase from a 4770k to a 6700k. It is probably just fine if you only upgrade the GPU to a 1080, the RAM and SSD.

upgrading the 4770k to the 6700k is silly, you're spending hundreds of dollars on less than a 20% performance increase. 

 

I'd recommend upgrading your GPU (1070 or 1080) and getting a bigger SSD, leave your CPU alone, maybe OC it a bit more

Agree with everyone else. 

The only big difference that might matter to you with z170 and the newer Maximus is the m.2 slot for storage, but the difference between a good SSD with a SATA3 connection and an m.2 isn't drastic and you probably won't be storing big projects on the m.2 drive anyway.  For the money the GPU upgrade only is the way to go.
