Hello,

I am building a new workstation PC. By this, I mean video editing in Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects work, web development, and a little bit of gaming here and their.

My budget is $1,000 USD at MOST.

What do you think of the build?

I was debating between the i7-6700K and the i7-6800K but decided to go with the 6800K most likely. I plan on overclocking.

I already have 2 monitors I will be using for a dual monitor setup.

I also ALREADY HAVE an SSD and HDD for my drives.

What do you think of the builds?

Which one should I go with and why?

A fairly small price difference but from my research the 6800K gives about 30% more performance than the 6700K.

What do you think and which build should I go with?

THANKS SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

Adobe products can make use of the gpu to accelerate editing and rendering. You might find that a better gpu will offer a performance boost.

The X99 build needs a better, more powerful cpu cooler as the cpu is 140W (as opposed to the 91W of the i7-6700K). The memory kit in that build is less than optimal. X99 & its cpu support quad channel memory operation. A 4x4GB kit would be a better choice for the build.

For video editing X99 is a much better platform.

If I go with a more powerful chipset for the GPU then I exceed budget for one and the price to performance ratio from benchmarks from what I have seen is not worth the extra money for say a 1070. Let me know if you disagree with that.

What cooler do you recommend then?

I did this for a reason. I am aware the more sticks the better the performance. I plan on upgrading to 32GB later when I can afford it, so that is why that is like that.

Thanks for your response and hope to hear back from you.

I don't disagree with your price/performance determination. The question I cannot answer for you is would an i7-6700K with a GTX 1070 provide a better editing experience than an i7-6800K with a GTX 1060. Certainly it would be a better gaming system.

The motherboard has 8 memory slots. Get a 4x4GB kit. You should be able to upgrade with a 4x4GB, 4x8GB or 4x16GB when needed. While the performance difference is very small in gaming, it is significant in many editing tasks.

I'm partial to Noctua air coolers. The NH-U12S is nice if one doesn't plan anyoverclocking. The NH-U14S is better and the NH-D15 is excellent. The NH-D14 would also be good if you can find one. The H80i would be a good choice for a liquid cooler.

If you are seriously considering an i7-6700K build you might think along the lines of:
