Apple EarPods not compatible

When I try to use my EarPods with and external USB sound card they seem to not work at all. I thought it was a problem with the sound card so I tryed plugging them into my px22 mix amp still. The mic was unresponsive and I couldn't get good sound. The crazy thing is tryed the same thing with some samsung headphones and they worked with every combination of devices I could through at them. So I tryed the same thing with a different new pair of EarPods. And still they didn't work. Can someone tell me what is going on here? I don't like any other headphones besides apples but they won't work with ether of my sound cards.
