MSI GS63VR?

Hey guys. I have been looking at the MSI GS63VR. My questions is, to anyone who owns one or knows someone who owns it, how is the fan noise and temperatures? Dave2D and LTT have said that the fans only get up to 45 dB without being too high pitched and temps stay under 60 Celsius, but then other people on forums such as reddit, here, and notebookcheck have said the opposite. Who's actually right? Please give some advice regarding should I get this laptop or not as I need it to last 3.5 years. Thanks.

I know that it is recommended by many people as a thin gaming laptop but cannot answer your specific question.

it seems to be badly rated everywhere that I'm looking. I would prob go for an asus equivalent.

I'm currently using gs63vr 001 model from best buy and so far If I max out all the setting in gta 5. Then the fan noise becomes really loud, and if I set setting to high/medium then fan noise is not loud at all. The max I see the temperature reach is 72 c and there's no high pitched noise either. So, far i'm happy with it and with the thinness it's really a sexy gaming laptop, that doesn't become into a stove like another gaming laptop. Cough razer blade cough

See the problem is all the reviewers say that it's awesome and then 70% of owners say that it's unacceptably loud and hot. And I don't know who to listen to. Sure, TechNutz says its good, but are you sure the temps don't go too high when you turn the fans down to medium? On top of it, the MSI is $150 more than the Clevo I'm looking at while having worse specs, so the thin and light factor better be worth it and not cause any problems. I'm leaning towards the Clevo on this one, I think.

I looked at the Alienware but for the Alienware 15, the Black Friday "deal" is $1300 for a 1060, 8 GB ram, 128GB SSD... (i think?)

Add that to the fact that it's thick and heavy and I would rather go with the Clevo.

Forgot to mention this, but if you don't do a clean install of windows on this. Then the bloatware msi put on there, going kill performance so much. Maybe those people that are having problems, didn't do that.

MSI's bloatware is straight retarded. So is there bios limits. Get one from Svet off the MSI forums for a few dollars.

He makes custom bios' for MSI laptops like Prema makes custom bios' for Clevo. It allows you to get rid of the retarded factory things. I'm not that deep in the MSI scene so idk what specifically HIS bios does. But from what I hear it's basically like Prema's.

An example of Clevo stock bios being stupid is how GPU's throttle for no reason. It's a built in feature. No idea why. Also CPUs don't get sustained full voltage at stock even if the motherboard is capable of handling it. With the Prema bios, everything is rock solid. GPU OC clocks STICK whereas stock bios clocks don't stick. Mobile pascal throttles after it rises above 50C or so. When I say throttle I don't mean like Razer Blade levels of throttle, I just mean not performing at max.

So how do I pick this up for a possibly Clevo or MSI laptop that I get and how do I install it? And is it worth it? The reason I'm asking is while I know a decent amount about hardware, I'm sort of a noob when it comes to detailed Windows software such as BIOS. So I don't have a remote idea of how to start.

For Clevo you can't. You need to buy from a Prema partner. Basically a retailer that as partnered up with Prema and all their machines come with the Prema bios. That's why I recommended LPC Digital. LPC Digital will provide you installation instructions everytime a new one comes out.

For MSI and Svet, you buy the bios off of him on the MSI Bios forums. For installation instructions he will provide it.

If you like to tinker with things, it's the ONLY option. If not most people don't notice and are fine with stock. I have only purchased my Clevos from a Prema partner because I do tinker and I like the option to have expanded bios options for high level things.

This is what the options on the Prema bios look like. Compare that to any laptop. They don't even have a 10th of the options to play with.

That's all cool, but I'm not really the person who digs into BIOS to get the best settings. Is there like an easy tutorial to not throttle the GPU as you were mentioning or do you just have to have an inherent knowledge of this stuff? Thanks.

Uhhh you don't have to do anything. The Prema bios will not throttle the GPU, the bios settings are for optimizations and OCs and further stuff
