After using DDU to remove my old drivers several times, installing my 1070 Amp Extreme, and trying to install the new drivers, I get an error saying the drivers are incompatible with my version of Windows. So I look it my Windows version up: Version 10.0 (Build 10240) and I assume that this is a newer version than the required 1511 but it's still not working. Currently installing Windows anniversary edition to see if this is a fix. Anyone have a clue as to what's wrong?

Also, when I go to check my gpu using GPU Z, the name shows up as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter instead of my gpu's name which is kind of strange.

Yeah, that's literally all that's wrong. You have to be on atleast somewhat recent builds on Windows when downloading newer drivers.

So then why was it that I could run my 970 fine on the previous Nvidia drivers (the one before the current one)?

Because those previous drivers were made for the previous version of Windows. Now you need an updated Windows for the now updated Nvidia drivers

rightclick > run as administrator is usually the fix for this, if it doesnt fix it run windows in safe mode and try from there

usually driver installations give the error of the windows version is incorrect if it just fails to load, including permission failures

Then theoretically I can run the previous driver on my current Windows version and it will be fine.
