I'm in the process of putting together a build in a Mastercase Pro 5, which has 5 HDD bays and 2 SSD bays. I'm currently looking at 1 Samsung 850 Evo 500gb and 2 WD Black 2tb. and 4tbs of high-performance hard drive storage seems a little extreme. so would 1 WD Black 2tb and 1 WD Blue 4tb be better? I'm going to be recording almost all of my gaming sessions in CSGO and Overwatch

I would go for both WD Blues. There's really not that many situations where the performance increase of WD Black is worth the extra cost.

If you really need the performance, a better option would be an SSD scratch disk for immediate work loads that can then be offloaded to mass storage.

I'll be installing some games on the hard drive because I have tons of them, should I get a higher storage SSD with the money saved on getting WD Blues?

If you can get the budget to, then sure. Or buy a 250GB or so and use it for your most frequently used games.

Hi there.

Since you're going to use a SSD as a primary drive I would suggest to get one WD Black and one Blue drive because of the different features each of these will give you.

For instance, having in mind that WD Black is performance oriented drive with a build-in dual-core CPU (which makes it a good option when it comes to multitasking) I would use it as a main HDD for games and non-demanding software, while WD Blue will be a good option for a mass storage drive (movies, music, pics, files, etc.) and backups from the SSD.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask any questions you may have. :)

The WD Red 4TB is $20 more than the WD Blue 4TB, I've heard the Red is far more reliable. is it a bad idea to get a NAS drive for my use case?

You can get a NAS HDD and it will work just fine in your PC although it's meant for NAS devices. The main difference between the two is in the firmware, for instance WD Red has additional features such as TLER that reduce the chances of a drive dropout or data corruption.

Furthermore, I have seen a lot of people using WD Red as a backup or a secondary storage unit in streaming builds. :)
