I currently have an FX 6300, overclocked from 3.5ghz > 4.4ghz, 1.31v, on a 212evo. a GTX 660 2gb, and 2x4gb 1866mhz ram. Pcpartpicker. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/p9fBTH

its 4am and I'm terrible at asking complete questions so feel free to mention if I miss something.

I get FPS increase all of the games I've tested so far (mafia 3, bf4, rainbow 6 siege) when lowering resolution from 1080p-900p-720p. Even overwatch, which I thought was CPU intensive... so I'm getting the idea this is a GPU thing.

so I know getting an rx480 + fx6300 would turn it from a GPU to CPU bottleneck, but it would be a hell of a lot better than a shit crisp cinematic 30fps on medium 720p for mafia 3.

could I purchase this RX480 newegg link and realistically expect 1080p@60 on high settings with games like bf1-doom-mafia 3-rainbow 6 siege? I have no interest in 1440p or above, because of my monitor.

would I get the same thing from a RX470 because of my CPU?

i dont think your overclocked 6300 is a bottleneck for the rx 480 esp cos its OC'ed. it has similar perf to an i3 which doesnt perform any worse than an oc'ed i5 for that class of gpu.

it also depends on the game any CPU intensive game with almspt certainly bottleneck.

I'd like to see how much instead of just guessing. right now I get about 80-90fps on overwatch (Overwatch being a CPU intensive title!) on high settings with 100% GPU usage, and 70-80% CPU usage, and thats pretty sad.

I believe jay did a video with a 1080 and a 8350 and its was only 3% lower than the best intel. This is just a gpu benchmark cpu doesn't make that much of a difference.

true but it shouldnt be so much of an issue that you would go with a lower end gpu. id say go for the rx 480

no I agree it shouldn't be to much of an issue.

but having a more powerful card to turn up the settings is nice

I'm looking to get max settings 40-60fps, but if my processor is so weak will both the rx470/480 get the same fps

That depends upon the game. But, if the cost isn't a factor, get the RX 480. Even if the FX-6300 holds things back, you won't need to upgrade the graphics when you upgrade the CPU to Zen later. :)

If cost is a factor get the 470. It will handle 1080p graphics at high settings @60 fps except where the CPU tops out (in GTA V for example).

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
