I have a USB that I have Ubuntu on, however, when trying to install the USB does not appear in the partition's, (should be sdb1 but only sda shows)

It shows /dev/sda/ and all the partition's on it. But it does not show the sdb, however, since I am using the USB as the boot for Ubuntu, I get access denied whenever I try to add it to the partition's (Which is understandable)

Therefore, I would like to know how I would be able to install Ubuntu from inside Windows itself. If it's possible that is.

Thanks.

Yes. If there is a program called "Wubi" on the USB that your Ubuntu boots off of, or you use a program called UNetBootIn.

Both will create installations that work similarly to booting Ubuntu off of USB. Nothing will be saved from that drive, and you can perform a full install if you want. You can also delete Wubi or UNetBootIn like any other program within Windows.

Depends on the USB device. I've never gotten a flash drive to work, but external HDDs have.

It might work, but I can't guarantee it.

The point of this is to be able to bring the USB into work in hopes of being able to do some programming on break .

You might be able to do it if you live boot Ubuntu off of a second USB, or install it as Wubi.

So I did both the things you said, UNetBootIn didn't work (Just came up with the same screen as what the normal Rufus installation did) and Wubi just wasn't working because of something to do with metadata and the iso file.

I've narrowed it down to the partition not being visible when installing Ubuntu, would you happen to know how to fix this? Thanks.

No idea, sorry. You could take a ponder at the Ubuntu Forums.

@Zalosath you won't be able to access your Windows partition inside of Ubuntu if you install it with Wubi.

Canonical dropped the support of Wubi because of that, but you can get the unofficial one at https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi/releases/tag/1610r317 . If you choose to do that and have secureBoot enabled, you will need to follow their instructions to boot to Wubi : https://github.com/hakuna-m/wubiuefi/wiki/MOKManager#import-a-mok

If you don't really need a full blown linux, I would recommend you to use the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL).

Sorry, I didn't mention but I fixed the problem with this solution.
