Hey guys, so I've been having crashes when the system's under heavy load for the past couple weeks. I've tested the GPU and CPU using Furmark and Prime95 (and both simultaneously) without any crashes, so I doubt it's the CPU or the graphics card. I haven't tested my memory using Memtest yet because I don't have bootable CD / USB stick with me, I've switched the ram to another slot (I have 1x8gb ram), switched the order of the power plug (because I thought one of them might have been faulty) but I'm still having crashes. So I thought it might be the PSU, but I don't have a spare PSU for me to test with and verify that my PSU is the problem. I do have logs from HWINFO though, and this is my gpu power reading from it around 15 minutes before I crashed (I was playing GTA Online when it crashed)

Could it be my power supply? I don't want to spend money to fix things that don't even break so I'm really hesitant about replacing things :/

What are the temps and overclocks of the cpu and gpu?

What gpu are you using?

It's the Corsair VS450. I tested my components' required power usage on that one site (I forgot the name) and it said I need around 316W to run my system.

My other components are:

if you're worried about your power supply, it's the voltages that you should be checking.

(if they're more than 10-15% away from their rated value, that's a potential cause for worry)

Hmm, do I need a PSU tester to test it?

I couldn't find any of the +12v and +5v but here are some of the +3.3v I think

Look up software that checks the PSU voltage. I think intel extreme tuning utility does.

Downloading it now

Edit: Got an error while installing it, said unsupported platform. I guess it doesn't work on an AMD system?

Intel XTU doesn't work on amd. Just look up PSU voltage checker or something like that.

If you can't find anything, get a cheap volt meter and measure the voltage while under load, you could strip the wires a little bit and the tape them back up. Don't worry the highest voltage there is 12v it can't hurt you.

HWMonitor shows you your 3.3/5/12volt readings, if you're still in need of a program, works on AMD too

Just figured that out earlier today while Googling for PSU voltage monitor or smth and decided to use HWMonitor. Everything seems normal but my 5v rail is overvolting I think? Do you think it's a bad PSU?

That is a bit high but I don't think thats causing games to crash, the graphics cards external power plugs are only 12v. Same for the external cpu plugs.

What are the games that are crashing, is it only certain games? Is there a error message when it crashes, or is it a blue screen of death.

So far; GTA Online and Second Life (both are very GPU intensive at times, but Second Life has been crashing faster) and CSGO also followed along and crashed after I bumped the resolution up to 1920x1080

That psu may be teling you it's time for a change. It's run by a main  capXon capacitor, so long term use may be causing it to drop performance. The Voltage regulation in the V12 rail seems within parameters for that unit. The 5V is a bit concerning, but again, this unit is known for bad voltage regulation.

id test this to get rid of the PSU doubt:

1) Set the gpu in "maximum performance" under Nvidia control panel in the Global settings tab.

2) Leave GPU-z running in background.

3) Launch the most demanding game you have and play it for a few minutes. Alt-Tab and see if GPU-z reports throttling and what is the reason under the "PerfCap Reason" graph.

It could also be you motherboard travelling to Valhalla... but it's far less common than a PSU falling apart.

Yeah I think you probably should get a new PSU.
