Just bought a CM Storm QuickFire Rapid. It's a mx brown because the i hate to double tap on blues and blues are really is annoyingly loud. I like the tactile feedback but not the loud clicking. Having transitioned from my Asus N56 laptop keyboard, this keyboard feels so good to type on because there's no more mushy keys that you have to mash on them to get them to register.

The problem I have with this keyboard however, is the squeaking that the longer keys make when hitting them. Longer keys as in spacebar, backspace, enter and shift. They are so annoying with that high pitched squeaking and the sound of think metal rattling bugs the hell out of me when I'm typing since I always have typos and have to hit backspace. The problem is worst at the backspace key as it squeaks the loudest.

I have googled and most results I get is to lubricate the stabilizers beneath the key. Although I have found contradicting reports about the usage of WD40(which I have). Some says that it will damage the plastic but others say it is alright to use it. So, any ideas what I should do? I don't want to wreck my first ever mechanical keyboard.

The Internet is invented by cats. Why? Why else would it have so much cat videos?

I dont know what lubricant, but you want something that doesnt damage plastic. If you cant find your answer anywhere I would suggest either registering on geekhack, I bet you that someone there will know what to do OR i suggest trying to put some lubricant on some other plastic to test it out, but the reaction might be different from the different types of plastic..

(Comming soon)

What I did with my QuickFire Rapid was I took off the stabilizers and stretched them a little outwards, so the plastic contact between the stabilizer and the key cap won't be too tight, causing squeaky sounds.

Stretch them out? Could you post a picture to ilustrate?

OK, I am assuming that you know how to take out the Costar stabilizer. What I meant by stretching them out is, basically, after you take out the stabilizer, stretch the sides of the stabilizer gently, and make sure to do it on both sides. After doing this, the squeaks on my QuickFire Rapid stopped squeaking. The effect wasn't permanent at first, and it did squeak again later. But after doing it twice or 3 times over one year, there has been no more squeaks.

I took it apart before and it looks nothing like yours though... Mine is one metal piece that's bent and two tiny plastic "hooks"
