Greetings, everyone!

Today I was going to buy the following computer for 650€

 - CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.20GHz Quad-Core Processor
 - Motherboard: B150M LGA1151

 - RAM: 16GB DDR4 2400Mhz
 - HDD: 1Tb 7200rpm SATA 3
 - GPU: GTX 750Ti 2GB GDDR5

 - Case: Nox Hummer MC Zero Edition

 - Power Supply: Tacens Mars Gaming MP600 600W

However, a friend stopped me from doing it because he said he could build a better one for a cheaper price and this came out for 625€

 - CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor
 - Motherboard: MSI H110M ECO Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
 - Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
 - HDD: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
 - GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 3GB ARMOR OCV1 Video Card
 - Case: NOX Hummer MC Zero Edition ATX Mid Tower Case
 - Power Supply: SeaSonic S12II 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Now, my budget is at 650€ at the moment. I want to use the computer for gaming recording and video editing at 1080p. I'm not sure if I'll be playing demanding games like Witcher 3 or Battlefield 1, though I am a bit curious about these. I'll be recording some PS1 games as well as a bunch of different PC games. I'm a bit iffy about getting the i3 as the i5 would do much better regarding rendering times, however if I were to get an i5 with the 1060, I'd need to spend 710€ instead of 625€ which is a bit difficult for me. I'm planning on rendering two videos per day and will be using Adobe Premiere.

My question is: How long would an i3-6100 take to render 15 minutes 1080p videos in comparision with a i5-6500? Also, is there a huge difference from 8GB to 16GB for rendering these same videos?

Thank you in advance,

 - Nervly

Thank you for your replies.

I've already looked into both this video and the CPU but it sadly still goes over my budget.

The i5 is definitely the better choice here, yes, but what I do not know is if it is worth sacrificing the 1060 down to a 750Ti to get the i5 or if the i3 + 1060 combo is enough, hence my question on its rendering times. What about regarding the RAM?

How about a i5-6400 and a 470?

I think you should get the i5 6400 for editing. But if you are recording games a 750ti may be a bit too slow, what you end up in gameplay with bad graphic settings... In my opinion it would be absolutely worth it to wait a bit (maybe until the christmas sales are coming) and get a better graphics card :)

Hmm, that's true, I didn't think about that. It might actually be better to wait a bit more and get both the i5 and the 1060.

Thank you for the help :)

I don't know in which country you live, but you may be better off with a RX480. In Germany for example the RX 480 was about 100€ cheaper than the GTX 1060 when both cards were just released. So you could save 100€ while getting nearly similar performance. In many DX12 games the RX480 is even a lot better.

Here in Portugal the GTX 1060 3GB is 235€ and the 480 is 245€ but the 1060 6GB is 300€. I might consider the 480. What are the differences between AMD and NVIDIA?

In general the RX series is better in DX12 games, while the GTX 10XX series has more raw power. If I was you I would look for some benchmarks between the two cards in the games you play, there should be plenty on YouTube. Both cards have quiet and reliable afermarked coolers and don't use much power. So in the end it is mostly personal preference and the difference in the games you play the most.
