Testing your monitor

Hi. Any suggestions how to test your monitor for factory defects, display problems, performance issues.. etc. I want to check the monitor I bought before bringing it at home. Any software do that? Any procedures that I should do? tia

Only thing I can think of, is watching full-screen at max resolution, white, black, blue, red and green images. All the purest colour code. You should be able to spot any dead pixels. Other then that, no idea.
