Hey, i''m looking for a cheap build for VR ( Vive ) and i'm in the UK.

While I want a cheap build for VR, I don't want a shitty build, if that makes sense. This PC will only be sat in a room, and it will not be used much outside of VR, as I already have a personal rig, hence why I don't mind cheaping out on stuff.

For example, i'll get a cheap PSU, but not a £20 PSU that will explode in 1 month.

Ideally, it would be the bare minimum, a cheap mobo, cheap HDD, cheap PSU, cheap RAM , etc.

I'm more or less decided on the case ( S340 elite, it has a nice setup for VR with the front HDMI port and the headset stand ), and the graphics card has already been bought.

I'm not experianced with mid range builds, so i'm not sure what to go for. I'm thinking the I7 6700 and I have a KFA2 1070, but i'm not sure about the rest. I'd be upscaling the vive's reoslution by 1.5 - 2 if possible.

While I appriciate all input, please take into consideration the following things before recommending anything:

I am getting a brand new KFA2 GTX 1070 with my vive. It comes at only a £200 additional cost with the vive, which is cheaper then a 1060 3GB.

This PC will literally be sat in my living room and rarely used outside of VR. Therefore, I don't need an SSD or anything that isn't essential.

I am not sure how much resources VR uses. Do I NEED 16gb RAM for VR? Do I NEED an I7, will it bottleneck in VR?

Thanks!

i7 6700 isn't exactly 'midrange' and probably isn't even 'minimum' for VR, but beyond that I'm not sure. I think an i5 would be sufficient for entry level VR.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

You dont need an i7 or a 1070 to run VR. Oculus recently released lowered specs, now you only need an i3 and a 960, but steam VR still needs an i5 and RX 480 so I would get that.

Please quote our replys so we get a notification and can reply easily. Never cheap out on a PSU, or I will come to watch the fireworks.

No, but I would rather an I7 as i'd be running a vive and i'd want to upscale it by 1.5%. To be honest, i'm not sure how much CPU impacts VR performance or if the Vive takes usage of hyperthreading. If CPU doesn't impact my ability to upscale resolutions, and it won't bottleneck my GPU, I could go for the I5 6600.

Hey,

I think a i7 is a bit overkill, if you want a budget build. I would recommend this:

Intel i5 6400k

GeForce GTX 1060

450 watt corsair

256 gb ssd for OS/programs

1TB HDD for other things

8GB RAM

some MSI motherboard (B150M-D3H for example)

I hope this helps you,

Why would he get an Unlocked CPU without a Z170 Mobo?

Don't get an Unlocked CPU if you are not getting an Overclockable Mobo

Thanks for the input, but :

As I said, I already bought a graphics card ( 1070 )

As I said, I don't need an SSD, I only need the bare minimum.

And, I don't think its worth getting an unlocked CPU with a motherboard that doesn't support overclocking.
