Will this external HDD work with Linux.

Go to solution Solved by WoodenMarker,

But when i install the OS to my main HDD it formats it to EXT4 so readable.. o well.. i guess ive been researching to much because it says i have to install some stuff to mount the NTFS drive.

Installing a working OS to a drive and reading off of it are two different things.

It should be fine as long as you're not installing your OS to your external drive.

Ok i have a Seagate Desktop Expansion 2TB EXTERNAL HDD and its currently formatted NTFS, im running Win8.1 and i have important things in there like family photos. Im about to install Ubuntu 13.10 and im wondering will the external HDD work so im able to access the files without reformatting the HDD to a different format?

external hard drives act as flash drives. Most operating systems recognize that they are mass storage devices but I know that XP sees it as just a huge flash drive.

But yes, I can't see any reason why Linux would reject that.

Its a external HDD, so ubuntu will be able to open it without formatting the HDD?

It should work just like it does with Windows--nothing special.
