Weird problem with DMZ and my Home Server

MatheusSanzo

I have an Home Server running Debian 6, everything works just fine, SSH, FTP, Apache, etc..

But one day ago, suddenly everything stopped, ping is OK, and ports are listening.

I discovered that if i disable DMZ to my server on my router it works just immediately, and stop working when I enable it.

I tried to reset my router ( an old D-link DI-524) and configure it back again, but the same happens.

This is weird because days ago it was working normally with DMZ enabled.

Someone have an idea?

I would avoid using DMZ unless its absolutely necessary like the port forwards don't work right etc... Just forward the ports you need.

Something wrong with your connection ?

Run the damn cable :)

DMZ or DeMilitarized zone puts the device in logical terms out side of your network(Past the Mediocre protection of your routers firewall). Some routers will automatically configure a kind of virtual network to keep it linked some don't. Have you tried connecting Via your External IP address? Preferably like rufee said forward some ports and leave DMZ disabled. It will make things easier in the long run. Things get complicated especially when you have a Dynamic IP address from your ISP with DMZ.

I have never done this before...

I still have to talk to my ISP to open some ports, but just to have sure...

If i set-up these two options on my router, without DMZ will it work?

DMZ overrides both of those settings for the applicable device.
