I don't know... but if you are stuck with your Nvidia GPU being always on.

Then while it's no fix, it should help, I have made a software that allows you to control the GPU performance based on what you run. It uses a community supported catalog of games and applications, and its designed for laptops and desktops. So basically, you can force your Nvidia GPU at minimum frequencies, reducing: heat, noise, and power consumption when you are in Windows, browsing folder or surfing the web. But if you start Counter Strike (let's say), and you are plugged in ('cause the software isn't stupid :) ), it will clock your GPU to normal frequencies, for a full nice gaming performance. And you can take things further and go: "When I open Crysis and only Crysis, use this custom overclock GPU profile for me."

It also continuously monitor your GPU temperature, and as soon as temperatures gets too hot, even if you OC, the software will temporarily throttle the GPU, keeping your game running, while things cools off a bit, and resume what setting you set the program to use (full performance or overclock). This also avoids system shutdown, or game crash, or even, in some laptops, the system permanently throttles completely until reboot.

It's easy to use, and non-obstructive.

The current version uses in conjunction with Nvidia System Tools to control your GPU performance (so it's solid stuff.. I mean it's from Nvidia).

But, if you are curious, I am working on a massively improved version of the software, which can work, at your choice with; EVGA Precision, or MSI AfterBurner, or of course, Nvidia System Tools. It also will include Auto GPU Boost feature (disabled by default of course), which is like Nvidia GPU Boost.. but works with all Nvidia GPU's, 64-bit games/app support, and many improvements. This version is fairly massive, so you have to be a bit patience (university is the way), but I am crossing my finger for a late December or January release.

Anyway, if you are interested: http://www.nvgpupro.com/nvgpupro/

I have to be fair here, there is a premium version of it which give you more features. But please understand that I need to pay the server, and I really want 0 ads, 0 toolbar, 0 crap anywhere remotely close to my software or setup. We all hate them. The free version is NOT a trial. I selected the "premium" features to be not something critical, but more of like "thank you very much for your support, here is some additional potentially useful, but not critical, features that you might enjoy".

Again, it's not a fix to your specific problem, but it's something.

Hopefully it helps.
