I'm currently trying to get into PC gaming and was wandering if I a g502 is worth the extra cost over a g402.

Games:

I mostly play stuff like witcher 3, mass effect, Diablo etc. I'll probably use a controller for those games if  mouse and keyboard doesn't work all that better. However, I also plan on playing new games such as Overwatch, CS GO, League of Legends, guild wars 2 etc. of which I'll be sticking with keyboard and mouse. Wandering if getting the g502 warrants the extra cost

Price in Canada. Both are on sale and fit into the budget (though just barely for the g502 and only cause of the sale):

-G402 ($59.99 cad)

-G502 ($89.68 cad)

It's a good mouse, if a bit heavy. Not sure it's worth the price difference there.

It's all down to preference. Try them out if possible and see which you prefer. I find that the G502 is hard to go wrong with unless you have particularly small hands.

Trying the out isn't really possible for me though I'll see if I can.  But, seeing the options, which would you personally go for?

Well, with an i7, GTX 1080, Full tower and flashy lights, it can obviously only be for one thing:

Solitaire.

Personally I find the G502 worth that extra cost just for the free scroll wheel functionality. It's extraordinarily useful for web browsing and desktop application use, and it can even have some niche use in games on occasion. If that sounds useful to you, and if you think there's a chance you'd make use of the G502's extra buttons, then I think it's worth it without a doubt.

The G502 feels quite light to me, but that's based on my own personal experience. My last mouse was a Corsair Vengeance M90, which has a pretty hefty aluminum frame. I have a preference for heavier mice.

I'm currently using a G502 for my personal system and find the free scrolling wheel invaluable.

I also plan on doing a lot of computer programming and speaking form experiences (from trying to debug thousand lines of code) yes the scroll wheel feature is a useful benefit. But not exactly a deal breaker. Also not sure if I'll use the extra buttons (though if it improves gameplay I probably will)

From the answers I've gotten however, it seems I'll go with the g502

Have you used the g402? The g502 will definitely bee useful for browsing and the programming apps I use, But it's that much of a deal breaker for the price.

Have you used it for gaming?

Yep. I had one lying around for my test bench which rotates between different mice. The clicks are a bit harder to press and I wasn't a fan of the lower weight. The scroll wheel does have  a decent texture but the lack of free scrolling is a deal breaker.

Ok so general concensus, g502 over g402. Thanks

If you can get yourself into the habit of setting up some sensible bindings for those buttons, they are really nice to have for gaming. I personally wouldn't want to be without them. I use them quite heavily.
