That CPU will bottleneck a 1080. Get a better CPU, like an i5-6600K or something along those lines

i don't think i'll need all that storage, and would rather just stick to a  Samsung 850 EVO-Series 500GB 2.5" SSD.

and i would still be able to get good FPS in 1440p?

A 1070 is great for 1440p, and all you really need is an i5-6600K. You might also be willing to wait for AMD's competitor to the 1070, which we'll see early next year.

It's a CPU that was released back in 2012. The single core performance is super lackluster in most games. It's arguably half what a single core's performance from any Intel CPU is these days. Furthermore, you lack certain features that all current gen intel motherboards have. USB type-C, PCIe Gen 3.0, etc. Hell, the second of the two is more of a shocking thing than the Type-C port, given that AMD's motherboards cannot even measure up to their own damned GPUs! xD

Zen will change this though.
