He would be fine with the 6600k. Unless he is doing media creation or planning to SLI 1070s the 6600k is plenty, no way it will bottleneck if you put a nice overclock on it. Also, I am a sucker for the Cryorig H5 ;)

When buying memory for Z170, there is a small chance that separate sticks will not work in dual channel. There is also a small chance that XMP profiles will be different and manual tuning will be required. Dual channel operation and XMP speeds will be assured by getting a 2x8GB or 4x4GB kit. Dual channel operation does not usually make a noticeable difference in most gaming, but can improve performance in other applications.

SeaSonic S12II 430B would be a better psu choice.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I agree, I would sleep better at night with a 2x8gb or 1x16gb kit just to be sure I would have no problems.

5-30 fps boost with an i7 compared to an i5 with far less stuttering.

With a Titan X. I will admit, some games will benefit from the extra horsepower, but for most people it would not be worth the extra $100. It really just boils down to what hames he/she plays and how long they plan to go without upgrading.

a gtx 1070 has similar performance to a titan X.

Well in the end its up to him/her, its their money. I just can't justify an extra $100 than could have been spent on a better GPU or other part for 5-20 extra FPS, especially if I'm already getting more than the refresh rate of my monitor.

if you would check, he wants a 144hz monitor. that i7 will help to get to that 144hz.

Getting a $100 head start on a 1080 would help too. I am a believer of saving and getting the best that you can get the first time. If it were me I would wait some more time and get a 6700k and 1080, the better GPU will help a lot more.
