So I'm building my first PC for gaming mostly and I'm wondering which cpu is better paired with an Asus ROG Strix RX 480: the I-5 6500 or the FX 8350/70. One note though, this is just a temporary cpu and i'm getting an upgrade next year.

The 6500 is a better CPU.

Only grab a FX-83XX if it's $110 or less

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Since your not looking for a long term option until next year, I'd honestly get even an core i3 and cheap mobo. Save your pennies for the new AMD CPUs/Mobos coming next year. They are making some serious waves in testing already and from what you can read around the web, they may just finally give Intel a good punch or two. :)

If it's temporary, get the 6500 and a Z170 board, then get a Kaby lake i7 next year which should work on the Z170 board with a bios update. I know ASUS has a bios update already.

Is it going to be good enough to run Battlefield 1 on high 1080p? With the RX 480

How is Zen going to compare to kaby lake in performance and price? Cause I'm more of an AMD guy so i'm thinking on going w Zen, but i don't want to get outdated hardware, even for a year, if it's possible to get better.

Once you factor in the fact that he's upgrading next year, even this wouldn't be worth it since he'd have to buy new RAM.

Eh one can sell used RAM at 80% value because RAM just doesn't die (exceptions apply)

The 6500 shouldn't bottleneck the 480, and if it does, it will bottleneck considerably less than the 8350/70.

Yes i get that, but will it be able to play all of the latest games, especially BF1, on 1080p high settings on constant 60fps or more?
