Greetings everyone,

Recently a group of my friends and I purchased two older model Xeon CPU's, the x5450, which run on a socket 771 motherboard. We were wondering if it would be more beneficial to use the required MOBO, or mod a 775 MOBO, which I've observed is a very simple process. Thank you for your input!

mod a 775 mobo . That way you can overclock !

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

id say mod a 775 board, specifically a P45 chipset board if you can get your hands on one. Those boards overclock very well with Xeon CPUs.

Thank you guys, it has been very helpful. Are there any 775 socket boards that support 2 CPU's?

no if you want to run 2 processors then you have to get a 771 server board. those thing are not worth it as you would be paying more in power bill than anything else. if you want a dual xeon system then you should save up and buy one of those dual socket 1366 server boards, then put in 2 e5640s or 2 L series Xeons.
