I have Verizon fios, and I want to get a 3rd party router and modem. Would this modem work http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16825165013&ignorebbr=1

I was told that would not work, as it is a cable modem, but my wall connection is coax. I don't know much about networking. Any ideas? Thanks.

FIOS = you must use an ONT that is provided by the network provider that supports GPON. 

 

Your 'wall connection' is likely just Ethernet over coax. 

 

So no, it won't work.  At best, with FIOS, you can change the gateway.

By gateway, do you mean router? If so, how do I plug it into coax?
