Hey guys I just got a quick question, I just finished installing the EK 280 performance water cooling kit and I seem to be getting somewhat inconsistent temps from my cpu which is the only thing currently in the loop, I just reinstalled window and was installing some software and driver and I was spiking up to upper 30s and for a short time at upper 40s but then very shortly after dropping back down to what seems to be my idle at about 27C-28C. So I was wondering if the pump speed had anything to do with that as I can tell its not running at 100% as when I filled the loop I could feel the pump humming and now that is it plugged into the motherboard I can barely feel it. What is a good software to control the speed of the pump or a way to do it at all since I can't do it manually. Or should I not really worry about it. I'm currently still just running with distilled water if that makes a difference, I'll be mixing the coolant later today. Thanks guys I appreciate the help.

  • check if your power supply is suficient
  • check task manager when it spikes up to see what is causing it
  • did you run the pump without any water in it?
  • check your ocs(overclocks)(via msi afterburner)
  • set a pump curve (via msi after burner)

i would recomend msi afterburner

ps:i would recomend also setting up a fan curve

Power supply is more than sufficient it's a 1300watt... other than the bit of air that might have gotten in when filling no the pump has always had water in it when turned on. No overclocks are currently set. I let the loop run for about 6 hours leak testing and most of the air bubbles seem to have gotten out. I will check out setting a curve in msi afterburner I didn't have a software to set a fan curve for the cpu fan(pump)

Maybe the MB can't supply enough power to the pump or its throttling the pump. Go into your BIOS and set fans to full on if the option is there. Watch temps while in the BIOS if available. There should be less fluctuation in the BIOS as no OS is asking the CPU to do things. If you have temp. swings more then two or three degrees after say 10 min you may have a issue. I would use a stand alone fan/pump controller made to run a pump. Some pumps need way more power then a MB fan controller can provide. What pump are you using? What main board do you have?
