Audio Port Failure?

Hey Folks,

 

I've been having issues with a connection to a group communication app (Discord) lately. At first I thought it was the app not recognizing my input (3.5mm jack). I was partially correct in my guess - there's a fault in the front panel 3.5mm mic  input connection (Output 3.5mm is solid). I popped the front panel off (Fractal Design Define R4) and everything appears to be secure, but when I mess with (Technical term for manipulate the 3.5 jack in the female receiver) it the device connects and disconnects. I'm wondering if maybe the contacts inside are faulty or possible something else is not right. The issue doesn't particularly bother me since I'll be using the backside HD Audio input from here on out, but audio was never something I had a hard grasp on. Either way, I'm not sure if anyone has an idea for possible fix with this. If so, I'd Love to hear suggestions.

You have a bad solder or something in there. That's a common issue with all cases. Sooner or later the joints give from all the plugging and unplugging and bumping into the connectors and whatnot. You can try and solder it, but it's pretty friggin' tiny. Luckily FD is among the few that sell spare parts: http://www.fractal-design-shop.de/index.php?a=210
