I have an amd a8 5600k 3.60 ghz cpu.

Yestrday i overclocked it to 3.90ghz with turbo boost on, because that is maximum i can go with turbo. Should i turn turbo off and oc-it to 4.3~ or just leave it like that ?

(It still haves stock cooler on it)

Is it worth to have turbo or no ?

(The system is used for gaming)

All turbo does is to increase the frequency when few cores are used (typically 1, but there are intermediate boost states for 2). Hence, it's pointless to have it on unless you can tune both the base frequency and the turbo states, but it is hard to make it stable (all overclocking guides will tell you to switch turbo off for this reason).

Hence, right now your CPU is at 3.9GHz, and when only one core is used it boosts to... 3.9GHz. If you further OC to 4.3, the turbo boost would be below the base frequency, so yes, disable it unless you want to (and your motherboard allows you to) spend time tuning both voltages and frequencies at the same time.

Regarding further OC, why not, but watch your temperatures, don't expect miracles on the stock cooler.

All right thank you.

So playing around with frequencies and voltages... got it.

So for future should I get something like hyper 212 evo to cool it ?

Most likely yes. In general, the further you have to increase voltages to achieve a stable OC, the more heat you generate, the better cooling you will need.

But the first setp is to check how hot the chip is running right now, check the 5600's max temperature at AMD's website, and consider replacing the cooler when you get too close to the limit under load.

I really couldn't find my answer for temperatures so I was testing it.

While running nothing on idle temp. was around 65-70C

While running full speed temperature was around 110-120C

So I removed 1 side of my pc case so it has some better air flow and now maxium I could get is around 100-101C

I know it sounds really hot, but I am running it for 3 years like that and I have no issues with it. (of course with stock speed)

While overclocked to 3.90ghz it reached around 105-106C and stopped there.

So yea I think it is good idea to get cooler.

65-70 idle means there is something wrong there. Maybe the stock cooler is not properly installed or something else, but that's abnormally high. Safe temps for the 5600K is 74C, you are playing lottery daily.

If you have thermal paste at hand, try re-seating the stock cooler, or if you get a new one then make sure it's installed as it's meant to.

Jesus christ.... lol thats alot... i will check... at least it is heating the room.

I will get a new cooler soon.

Thank you for the tips. Really helped.
