Exotic GPU Air Cooling

Cyborgsmith

So we couldn't be called enthusiasts if we didn't want to go a little crazy with performance, cooling, and in this case noise level.

The goal of this little rant is to try and see if there is any interest in some exotic GPU air cooling or if I'm just crazy

Lately I've personally noticed that even 5500RPM HDD is unbearably noisy, if I dont have netflix or music playing. So my goal is to try and get the current big noise producer in my system, a MSI GTX 970, nice and quite while still allowing me to overclock and without jacking the temps north of 70c, and keeping the noise level to a comfortable 20db

So this question arises.

What ever happened to the exotic GPU coolers?

I mean it used to be if you wanted something more then a reference design card you had to buy an aftermarket "vga cooler" (How times have changed)

For some reason, and I would imagine cost has a lot to do with it, these coolers are all being discontinued.

Does anyone have much experience with these beastly coolers? Did it/Would it make much of a difference on modern hardware given the advances we've seen in heat pipe and vapor chamber technology?

In the end the price for such a configuration wouldn't make sense compared to a multi rad custom loop, there would just be fewer points of failure.

Let me know what you think, I'm interested in hearing opinions.

The Accelero, Morpheus, and MK-26 are still a thing.

If your hdd is too loud, you should suspend it to reduce the vibrations from transmitting to the case. I personally use foam molds for my 3TB Reds explained here.
