One of my assignments for college has become corrupt, and I've been really lazy with back-ups so i don't have one (a mistake which i will never make again!). Anyone able to recover it? It is just text so no formatting needs to be preserved although i am sure that was out of the picture anyway.

This is a Dropbox link if you want to have a look: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5679488/D1%20-%20Copy.docx

If you have Vista, you need Vista Business edition or higher to have that feature.

If you are using Windows 7 (not sure if you need the Pro), right-click on it, and select properties. You'll see a tab called "Previous Version". Wait a moment for the list of version gets populated. Now you can go back in time. :)

In Windows 8 you have to set it up. You need to use a second HDD, or network computer. This backup system is greatly improved on Windows 8, and more powerful.

I don't know how to fix a corrupted word document, but I tried to see if I recover anything from it. What cool with docx format. is that it's really like a zip file. You can rename it to .zip, instead of .docx, and you extract your text, pictures and so on... Sadly, when I tried the zip program I use shows that its empty. So that won't work.

Thanks for having a look :)

ill try the 'Previous Version' tab, although I'm sure nothing showed up when I did.

I'm going to get back on the same PC at college where I assume it went corrupt, just hope I have sufficient privileges on those PCs to get it back and try checking the previous version list.

Did you try to open the document by using Open and Repair? You must try to open your corrupt word document by using Open and Repair. This will open repair the corrupt file and open it. But if this fails, then you can use a third-party recovery software. Use MS Word Docx recovery software and recover your data from corrupt docx file. You may check its demo version without paying a single penny, It's absolutely free. Go for it.

Good luck.
