Hi guys,

Been a long time lurker but have decided to join & gain some advice before commiting to a build.

Im looking for a build to run mainly games like cities skylines, farm sim etc. Also some very light video editing. Im looking at pairing this to a 144hz 1080p monitor particularly this monitor ASUS VG248QE with maybe dual monitors at some point in the future.

I have put together the following build for you to look at. Also would like this to last a few years and would like to stick to a intel cpu and nvidia gpu although im open to amd gpu's. Budjet is around £1000 not including monitor etc.

Switch out your 970 for a 1060 or a 470/480.

Otherwise, looks great!

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/BgmZcc I changed the ram config from 4 ram sticks, to just 2. You get the same performance, and you save a little bit of money. I also changed the 970, to a 1060, because the 1060 is the newer generation, and provides better performance, better power efficiency, etc.

@bob51zhangIs there much of a difference in performance between 1060 & 170 as there is about £100 price difference between cards?

@TheProfessionalAmateursI had 4 ram sticks as i have read that cities skylines is pretty ram intensive? Also OCD id like all 4 ram slots occupied ha

i would swich the 6600k for a 6500 and get a 1070

@FranpadiWould the 1070 benefit mainly sim games as i wouldent really be pushing for AAA titles, Also would like to get into the world of overclocking and for the sake of £20 extra for the 6600k

Thanks for the input. Makes me feel better my first planned build wasnt a total fail :)

You should go for the 1060 it really justifies its price. Any games available right now wont use more than 4 cores and I can run cities skylines perfectly with a quad core 2.7 ghz processor. If you want to overclock then go for the 6600k. Even if its ram intensive it wont use more than 8gb and putting 4 sticks instead of 2 will make no difference (there is a linus video on that subject)

Check this one out:

Its gonna destroy any game and you are going to have a pleasure overclocking it. Change the case and ram to one of your liking and maybe the motherboard.

@Franpadi I like the look of a liquid cooler B|, Good to hear you can run it perfectly, Im on a 5 year old 17" laptop at the minute so its not ideal although its not the worst laptop to be fair.

Also take in consideration that a 1060 will not be able to output 144 frames so that monitor might be a bit overkill. Let me now what is your final plan and please post some picks of the completed build and tell me your experience as i am a first time builder too.
