Hi guys,

Im at a bit of a dead end on the progress of my upgrade, so I thought I would come to you guys for help.

Current Build:

CPU Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz
Motherboard ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z97-E
RAM 16GB of crap
GPU R9 280X
Case Some CybertronPC case
Storage 2TB HDD
PSU 750W I think

(Sorry for the bad log, I bought this computer from CyberTronPC because I was too scared to build my own; I have realized my mistake)

New Log:

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/ybvt3F

Changed: New 2TB WD Black drive (Current drive is failing)

New 1 TB Samsung 850 EVO

New CPU cooler (H100i v2 replacing stock cooler) with Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilentPro PL-PS 120mm fans

New case (Phanteks Evolv TG)

New ram (Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory)

New fans (See questions)

Maybe a Phanteks compatible LED strip

https://gyazo.com/3a64ed1c89e235f8f64ff988fa7b9dc6

Cart =  $966.58

Now a few questions that I have, would it be better to have the 2 140 high performance be quiet! fans at the front or get 3 120mm High performance be quiets. I am putting a non high performance fan at the back of the case to force positve airflow with a slower fan, is this a good idea? I have the 2 Noiseblocker NB-BlackSilentPro PL-PS 120mm fans serving as the Static rad fans. Also, for my rad at the top of the case, should I run that in a push or pull configuration, as I am going to have the fans at the front serve as intake and the one at the back as exhaust. Thanks!

No GPU upgrade?

You really don't need an expensive 2TB Hard Drive especially with a 1TB 850 EVO. Get a WD Blue for $70.

For the high performance fans, any fan that's not sitting against the radiator or some kind of cooling element is unlikely to make any difference at all. Just make sure you have -some- airflow through your hard drives (heat bites into their usable life)

You will not notice any difference between the old 16GB and the new 16GB RAM, not unless you edit 4K video on Adobe Premiere or do high-performance scientific workloads (in either case, buy 16GB and run the whole 32GB in there).

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

If you don't have clearance do a push configuration with the rad, otherwise just have it pull as that limits heat cycle within the case. I would have the 3 120 mm fan be of higher quality, simply because you can do a custom configuration with the 140s to crank up only when needed and maintain cooling efficiency.

I am probably not going to do a GPU update for another few years, as a 280X is serving me fine as is.

Thanks for the HDD idea, I am probably going to do that, its just I am a little paranoid with my HDD choice as I am doomed with the disk at 100% usage problem

I was going to do the ram for aesthetics, especially with the tempered glass, but if I get the RAM, ill run all of them, I actually haven't thought of that.

Thanks!

The clearance in the case that I am using is narrow with push, as seen on Luke's review of this case, but it is doable. So therefore, should it be push or pull, and if I do the 3x 120s, they would be be quiet! 120mm High performance. Thanks

Are you asking if they would be quiet? Most likely as long as the barrings are higher quality. Push is fine as long as the air is being directly funneled out.

No, even though I am trying to go for a quiet PC. I am mainly asking this out of positive airflow, as I could have 3 exhaust and 3 intake, or 5 intake and 1 exhaust, albeit the intake is partially hot air. Also, I dont know if static fans would be better than the normal silent wings at the front, because it is taking air from a filter. If you could recommend a relatively quiet cooling solution, that would probably be easier, as I dont have very much experience with quiet PC building.

Do 3 and 3. I will sacrifice sound for cooling performance any day of the week. If you have just one exhaust it's not going to be able to pull out the air fast enough meaning the hot air will just circle around inside your case. You should still have a generally silent build because with good airflow you can change the fan speeds down lower but still maintain good cooling. For truly silent you got to go with a water build, but do 3 and 3 so you have good airflow and drop the fan speed or have it set to crank up only as needed.

Right, thats all the information I needed. I will probably wait for a few generations of parts more to come out to switch to a Water cooled. Thank you very much

Thanks, but that was already off. I spoke to one of my friends about it, he says I'm stuck until it fails and I get a new one. I agree, as I have tried just about everything the internet had to offer.

Ah, if it's off that just means the disk is going to die soon. My condolences.

Make sure you back all that shit up so you don't lose it.
