best gaming build for £800?

Alexzz_

I have a friend in england who is in need of a new pc, the budget is £800 and it will mostly be used for gaming. I myself have built only pc's of €1200 and up so i dont really know what to reccomend in the lower price range but i figured you guys would be able to come up with something good.

Raijintek Triton has questionable build quality. I would avoid it.

Swap the HDD to the 7200rpm version.

I would get some faster ram. A 2666MHz kit would be better.

The Samsung 750 EVO would be my choice for a budget SSD.

Get a better psu as well. The XFX TS for example is fairly cheap.

The GTX 1060 would be a better performing choice + the Corsair CX450M is a better quality power supply.

Build one: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/QKRqHN
On the first build I spend quite a bit on a power supply and got a decent case. However by buying a cheaper PSU and case, you could purchase more storage space or a better processor.

On the second build not only did I do what I mentioned above but I bought a cheaper RX 480 to boot.
Build two: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/kwFYd6

The problem with using unlocked processors in budget builds is clear. Not only do you need to spend more for the CPU itself, you also need to buy a more expensive motherboard and a cooler which raises the price of the machine by about 60-70 pounds in this case. It's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

On to the matter on why I didn't choose the GTX 1060 over the RX 480, those two cards perform pretty similarly so if you belong in the green team feel free to get the 1060.
The reason I picked the RX 480 however is because it's 8GBs vs 6GBs. I believe it is more future proof, so it should last (performance wise) more than the 1060.

Now since I don't want to post 20 builds with different variations here's what you can change in the first build if you believe the PSU is too expensive and want to grab a cheaper one (like the one in the second build).

  • Get a larger SSD (120gigs should be more than enough, however having more is always better)
  • Get a better case (will help with cable management, in fact if you buy a case with a large cable management compartment you could grab an equally reliable wired PSU)
  • Get faster RAM (I do not recommend sacrificing PSU reliability for this)
  • Buy a Z170 mobo instead of a B150 (What you will gain by doing this is that in the future if you decide to upgrade your CPU to a k variant, you will be able to do so without changing motherboard)
  • Put the extra money in your pocket. When you collect enough money, you upgrade your pc as you see fit.

Note: I am really tired while writing this reply. If there are any mistakes, I apologize, just notify me and I will correct myself if possible.
