Hi guys,

I made a bootable usb drive with he iso's for ubuntu. I went into the bios set the drive to boot first, but windows just booted. I disabled all of the other slots and tried again, but windows still booted. I then tried a override boot, but it didn't even do something help. P.S I used rufus to make the drive

if you made it with Rufus and checked the wrong partition scheme, the system will not boot from it

if you have your BIOS set in UEFI boot mode and not legacy CSM, you should make the partition scheme GPT in Rufus

how do I set it to legacy or CSM

you go in BIOS, should be under boot options

but if you do this, next time you boot to windows you'll have to change it back

ps: if you also have a Windows boot drive that you don't want to mess with, best to unplug it - it will save you from a whole lot of issue laters

Should I change something with rufus?

It still does the same thing

it's possible your laptop doesn't want to boot Linux

or:

  • there's something wrong with the .iso
  • there's something wrong with the USB thumb drive

try a different linux distro: Lubuntu, Mint ...
