I have an ASUS ROG G751JL. When i bought the laptop, I installed an SSD and wiped windows 10 to move it to said SSD. Since then, I haven't been able to use any sort of option that changes the brightness of the screen and no internet option I have found (updating drivers, disabling hardware, reinstalling drivers, etc.) has worked. This is slightly inconvinient as when im working away from a power source, it kills my battery that much faster so if I could get some help that would be great.

Check in Device manager to make sure you don't have one or even multiple hidden display adapters, if that's the case, delete them and reboot. Let me know if that doesn't work!

I'm not sure what other software i might need.

The software listed in the utilities section on the Asus website for that laptop, namely the Asus RoG MacroKey software as it's possible that is what is required to use any keys that control the brightness and other things.
