Hey Fellas,

so I will try to be as specific as possible.

I am building a new server and I currently have a test one up and running to decide which OS to use.

I have in this machine:
i7 3770

ASUS Z77 MB

16BG DDR3 Ram

3x 4TB Seagate HDD

2x 3TB Seagate HDD

1x 240GB SSD (Cache)

I have a Media Share on my 14RB Array (one 4TB is Parity) and not using a Cache drive for the media share.

My problem is this: When I am manually transfering files it works flawlessly, I can can transfer large sets of data without issue however twice now when I have setup a transfer and gone out or gone to bed I have returned to find the transfer either locked up around 20% completed or going at 2.77MB/S.

I have all my computers connected with 1gbps through my 24 port gigabit switch.

The computers have not crashed as I can still access unRaid through the browser interface, canel the transfer and even take the array offline and reboot the machine.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be going on?

could your cache drive be full? When an SSD is full, trying to replace files becomes very slow.

Hard drives when restricted from vibrating do slow down. If they are mounted very tightly can slow to a few MB/s. This is apparent if you use a WD black and put a heatsink on it making it mount real tight with no capability to vibrate but happens to any hard drives.

So i think the main issue you have is that your hard drives are packed tight and could be heating up or with vibration issues (hard drives slow down to accommodate for vibration).

When the transfer slows, are the NICs still at 1Gb/s and not 100Mb/s? Because errors on the network will cause a 1Gb/s link to renegotiate as 100Mb/s.

Thanks for the reply,

I have checked the drives and they sit at 26 -31 degrees stable.

No Cache drive being used and Cache checked and is largely empty.

Network stable no indication of 100Mb/s.

I have been transferring the same files today 200-300 GB at a time and it is holding the transfer at around 50+MB/s

I have not been able to reliably replicate the error although it has happened a few times.

This has me buggered.
