Well, if it's making a dodgy noise it means there is something wrong inside the monitor and that may happen (it was kind of a joke)

Oh yeah, probably just old age breaking things slowly, it is approaching it's 10th birthday, was overclocked for the longest time and I have noticed colors starting to fade. But the old bugger still works!

Get a new monitor. It shouldn't be buzzing, there's nothing to vibrate.

Electrical noise is quite common, and there don't have to be mechanical parts to hear buzzing sounds. Electrical currents create magnetic fields, which cause other electrical components to vibrate at high frequency. It's not dangerous or damaging, just annoying.

But loud enough to hear? Those are some damn inefficient pixels.

There are more parts to a monitor than just the pixels. There is a processor inside, voltage regulation components, and power conversion from AC to DC if the power supply is internal (no power brick). These can whine just like any power supply or VRM assembly on a motherboard or graphics card.
