usb type-c otg question

I've bought a new Nexus 5X (for just 217€, then I'll sell my current phone for 100€) but I don't know if the type-c port will support host mode (with an OTG cable) or if it will support it even with a type-c to microusb thingy.

Anyone ever tried this?

Well the note 7 came with a otg adapter from type c to usb. Different phone but I'm pretty sure the nexus is fine. Works with the 6p. Haven't tried it with the type c to usb cable though.

I'll just have to find a type-c to microusb adaptor that supports OTG (the aukey one on amazon doesn't)

Yes I lucked out since note 7 comes with a usb type C to usb (i believe its 3.0) otg adapter. It works fine with both the 6p and note 7. There is bound to be an otg compliant adaptor from a third party vendor somewhere. If I had a direct type C capable device for loading a hdd, or compute payloads from a pc with, I would use that bandwidth, but I frankly do not.
