Is it OK to use a DVI-D Single link cable in a DVI-D DUal link monitor and GPU?

No. It's just a normal monitor without anything special.

Everything will be fine

My monitor an Acer S191HQL with VGA and DVI-D Dual Link ports. However, the monitor came with a VGA cable and a DVI-D Single Link cable. Right now I'm using the VGA port to connect to my laptop but I'm planning to build a budget system in the future with the ZOTAC GTX 1060 Mini 6GB GDDR5 which has 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HDMI port and 1 DVI-D Dual Link port. Since the DVI-D Single Link connector has less pins than a Dual Link port, It will fit; but will it work?

Yeah but his monitor does not support 2k or any higher refresh rate. Just a 1366x768 60hz

no issues, given that's a 1366x768 monitor.....ewww that felt dirty typing that.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

When you have budget for budget build, look around ebay and craigslist? hell even some new 1080p screens go on sale cheap. best buy had some ips ones for 99$ some time ago and I see them as low as 65 USD sometimes. Used...well idk they get as low as 25USD. BUT didn't see you live in malaysia prices there and used market are certainly different.

It's not a problem for gaming, just browsing the web....the horror!

it actually literally pisses me off beyond belief. I bought a laptop with a 1920x1200 screen....10 years ago? And fuck I mean they STILL advertise them as "beautiful HD Screens"

fuck it, I'm gonna go to best buy's website and click on the first laptop I see

Quote

Its 15-inch screen delivers crisp, vibrant graphics

Quote

15.6" display

Typical 1366 x 768 HD resolution. Energy-efficient LED backlight.

Why the fuck do they still do this? This is literally the lowest resolution laptop size panel you can buy. I've been complaining about this for years- ads for "hd" laptops, when HD is classified as 1280x720, you cannot buy a laptop that doesn't qualify as HD. Shit I was using screens that quality as HD on laptops when windows XP came out.
It's misleading to consumers, borderline a scam

Eh I have 2 dell precision m4600s. I spent about 250$ on each of them. One has a sandy i7 and the other has a sandy i5. Both have 8GB of memory and I'm going to move them to 16 soon. Both have 1080p screens, backlit keyboards, and quadro 1000ms (mxm 3,0 a, so not really many upgrade options, cool thing though is you can actually flip off optimus, they use a separate frame buffer). I threw SSDs in both and a hard drive caddy in the one with the i7 I use for work. They've been wonderful laptops, and I don't think I'm getting rid of them until I have to. Go used, trust me. Look for professional/business laptops that companies are currently dumping. Really if you are not looking for a gaming device you can get a great laptop for a great price.

The laptop I used before was an alienware but before that was an e6400 with a 1440x900 screen and an nvs 160m, got that in 2011 or maybe earlier I think for 140$

I mean when I have a laptop it will be strictly no gaming. Believe me I did play games on that laptop. Cs go lowest settings with only 50fps
