I found an (to my thinking) amazing deal on Newegg Flash http://flash.newegg.com/Product/9SIA68F2B19552?utm_source=NFEmail091316&utm_medium=index&utm_campaign=SaleBanner_B3K_9SIA68F2B19552&cm_mmc=EMC-NFEmail091316-_-SaleBanner_B3K_9SIA68F2B19552-_-NA-_-9SIA68F2B19552 and I was wondering if I would get this and throw a RX 470 or 480 in it would it be worth it?

I also compared the CPU to a i5-6600 (non k) and it looked pretty close http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Xeon-W3690-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6600/m9677vs3514.

I just want some of your opinions on my RX 470 idea

It wouldn't be too bad. I'd also get an SSD, use the 500GB HDD as a secondary storage drive, and install the OS onto the SSD.

525W PSU will handle everything with room to spare.

Though just remember you won't get all the newest chipset features, like USB 3.0 or PCIe 3.0/4.0.

Keep in mind that it'll still run pretty hot, just from being older (generational improvements have greatly changed power consumption and heat dissipation) as a general rule of thumb. Older processors ran so cool you didn't need heatsinks, then you needed passive heatsinks, then you needed active heatsinks, then you needed MASSIVE active heatsinks, and we're slinking back to smaller active heatsinks.

"Not breaking it or making it worse is key."

"Bad choices make good stories."

Care to explain why?

I've just been looking at parts to build something similar.

But I guess if you guys think that complete PC is a good deal for that price then ok.

All I've been looking at are parts to build my own, with a T3500 mobo.

I kind of gave up on my researching today, bookmarked all my tabs. But yeah I was gunna buy the T3500 Dell board, and a X56xx cpu. I havent looked much at the W35xx processors though, the E560x are crap, but the higher up ones are good.

The W3 series Xeon processors are essentially multiplier locked variants of the 1st gen i7 series CPU's. I have a W3520 that is identical to an i7-920, but I can't overclock the multiplier.

It's really not a bad price for a pre-configured build. You could of course buy all the parts individually, used, for cheaper, but this thing at least comes with a 90-day warranty, to ensure everything is in perfect working order.

He could probably get a better deal used, but used doesn't come with any warranty or guarantees. Refurbished might not be as good as brand new, but it's better than straight up used. Most refurb units like that are probably old off-lease office PC's.

Yeah I know, if thats $400USD then wow!!!!!

That "looks" pricey still, in my eyes.

- The last 3 days, I've been searching for endless hours, going back and forth, pricing EVERYTHING out, reverting back to 1st gen i7's, pricing out 2nd gen i7's, going back to look at Xeons, looking at speeds, caches, prices. I got pages of notes! The last 3 days! I didnt really look at prices for complete Xeon systems, so I dont know. Just know to peice one together, its 50% off that price. Thats the hard way, for quick and easy then buy the complete system. I dont feel like searching newegg.com for Xeon PC's, but I think thats a normal price for a complete system if my memory serves me right.

FYI to the OP, the PSU is not proprietory, yes other ones are. But you are buying the complete PC.

I'd like to thank the OP for posting your thread. It gave me another angle to look at!

Sorry for hi-jacking it.

Those were just my thoughts, do what you want. I am not very knowledgable in some areas of the computing world.
