Help a beginner get started with Ubuntu?

So I really want to try to get into Linux and I've seen people say that Ubuntu is the easiest to start with.

Problem is, I know nothing about it except the fact that it's amazingly light weight on specs and takes little disk space.

So I was wondering if any of you guys had some words of wisdom for starting a Linux machine like what I should know, or some precautions if there are any. (Also I'm trying to make it a dual boot with Win.7 cause there still isn't enough games on Linux to make me fully switch)

Do some googling for general Linux concepts. The terminal/command line, directory structure, etc. I don't have any specific links to give you, sorry. The arch Linux forums and wiki are great places to learn about what's happening behind the scenes.

P.S. I would personally recommend Mint over Ubuntu because the layout is more similar to Windows and there isn't so much drama with the development. Also, it is based off of Ubuntu, so everything is compatible.
