I currently am still using my GTX460 and I can tell you that it plays current titles just fine @1080p - for 42 bucks it's gonna be hard to beat.

the worst of all, is that you guys may think im like an intel fanboy or something. Im not, but i will never recomend an apu when you can get a old gtx 460 or a HD 5850 that will completely DESTROY an apu for gaming. It doesnt matter if its a cpu demanding game or not. 10/10 i would grab the cheapest am3+ with an fx 6300 over an apu. Hell even a 4300, since you can upgrade later to a 8350. To what can you upgrade from a 6800k may i ask? to NOTHING 

 

If 2400 memory was cheaper, i may consider it. But since they are not, dont even think about it

Of all the people i have built rigs for most of them are not too happy with the notion of upgrading thier rig within say 5 years, and they have all cost over £350, you could spend £80 on an apu and have worse gaming performance but then you are more likely to NEED to upgrade, most people expect a gpu to last 2 years on a quick update cycle or 4-5 years in the case of a whole new rig (who's using thier pc from back in 2008 here?).

based on that your probably better off getting a much more powerful cpu (a phenom 955 is an option for maybe $10 more) and then maybe flogging the gtx460 and buying a new gpu..then running it for another 2 years and building a whole new system (and a pc gamer is born).

fwiw unless im mistaken btw people isnt the athlon 741k (fm2) just a die shrink of the athlon 640 anyway using a k10.5 architecture or is it actually piledriver/bulldozer, if its just a die shrink...its not worth the extra £2 in my book.

Hear, hear! I'm 60% amd and 40% intel for one reason, under £116 (8320) amd will generally be better above that it depends, if you JUST gaming get an i5, if your gaming and encoding-8320, gaming and encoding with a 2k budget-3770k, money no object-3930k.

gotta love a cheap used gpu.

The gtx 460 has 336 cuda cores, nearly the same as a gtx 650, that beats all apus.

wrong. They have different architectures. A gt 650 has 20 average fps on bf3 ultra, while the gtx 460 has 30/40 average bf3 1080p ultra

Thats a pretty nice build, of course ill cheap out on the case(coolermaster, not cit level of course) and the cpu cooler will not be needed, i dont overclock a customers cpu as it could cause warrenty problem, if they want to overclock then im not responsible for the problems they create.

The nzxt source 210 is the cheapest case i would consider, it is built robust and has allot of features, i have built pc's for people in cit case that they themselfs bought....the screws round out when you try and install the graphics card, its like building with cheese...

and you probably wont know if they have overclocked, but yeah stock is fine just make sure the noise level is acceptable to them, the 212+cooler imusing only has a 3 pin fan, if the evo has a 4 pin pwm your in business because it will likely be quieter without a fan speed reducer, but yeah I REALLY dont reccomend anything lower than the nzxt, and while yuou might think coolermaster are a great brand (once you spend £80 they become good) thier lower cases arnt so great, look at the haf 912...that is a VERY old design and they only recently got round to having an all black interior, the 430 elite is cramped to work in (for an atx case) and the front doesnt have usb, and looks like its designed for a floppy drive :wacko:

I had a GTX 460 768mb edition with an overclocked E8400 @ 4Ghz and it ran everything from Metro 2033, Crysis 2, all of COD games at full HD on mostly high settings.

 

An apu is good for integrated graphics but will not yet beat dedicated cards. Even older cards.

On a single GPU, i managed a huge OC of almost 1GHZ on air, benchable at 950mhz core from a stock 700mhz, and stable at 920mhz, but heat is an issue at those clocks as WC users have a hard time passing 900mhz let alone air users

 

Single 480 at 920mhz near enough matched a stock 7950 in games, it got nailed in synthetics though.

Mine died after getting run over. It fell out of my pocket as i was getting out of the car, parents drove off to do something, around 30 minutes later i ran outside thinking i dropped it, it looks fine on the outside but battery and its connector was crushed.
