So I bought a Gateway Desktop PC DX Series DX4720-03 years ago. I am currently in college and just need a computer that can run Autocad and Solid Works. Anyways, my old pc has not worked in years so I opened it up last night and found that the power supply is not working (shorted the green wire with ground and nada).

It has a Lite-On Ps-6301-08A in it currently. I need either a replacement Lite-On or a bigger PSU that will fit the case. The fan points backwards, next to the plug-in.

I may get a little bit more wattage because I may upgrade the graphics card if it cannot run that modeling software.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: Here's a great link so you can look at the case and get a better idea of the requirements. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883113078 click the 3 dots next the the pictures to get more pics of the case

Looks like standard atx form factor to me. Just throw a 80+ psu in there.

Budget Rig "Curable":     | FX 6300 @4.5Ghz | Asus R9 270x | Asus Crosshair IV Extreme | 16GB HyperX Beast | 120GB PNY SSD

The EVGA 450B/500B would do perfect for you. You're the target audience for that PSU :P

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Does it matter that the fan is on the top of the unit and not the rear? Because mine is facing the rear and the EVGA is on top. =/

So you have a case with a top-mounted PSU? I'd assume that the fan can only face into the interior of the system then, but it won't be right under a GPU so it's not the end of the world.

I'm not sure about the terminology but I wouldn't think the PSU is top mounted. Here's what the back of it looks like. 83-113-078-10.jpg

the GPU is in the bottom left hand corner of the case on the second image.

That case has a top-mounted PSU. The PSU is on the top part of the case.

I gotcha! So you still think that PSU that you recommended should work?

The EVGA 450/500/600B will all work perfect for ya.
